- Countenance & Confluence
- Morris & McDonough invite the public to participate in a unique event especially created for photomonth 08. They will erect a Street Portrait Studio in three East End markets - Spitalfields, Columbia Road and Brick Lane on Sundays during October. Sitters will be invited to make an accurate representation of themselves. Faces are governed by characteristics that now, displaced from one part of the planet to another, at once broadcast and locate specific communities. These distinct communities will be portrayed through the faces of the people in each of the markets. The aim is to make this a special encounter, an event that will involve the market users as participants and will provide an increased awareness of the importance of markets and their role in the community. Markets are an ancient tradition found in cities throughout the world. Linking the town with the country they still act as a confluence of peoples.
- For more information email info@alternativearts.co.uk or call 020 7375 0441.
- The portraits will be exhibited day and night in the windows of the Dray Walk Gallery, Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane E1 6QL from 29 October to 9 November
