Bird's Eye View : Festival Training - Workshops and Masterclasses

8-14th March 2007 at the NFT, ICA and Barbican

Now in it’s 3rd year the Birds Eye View Film Festival will, for the first time, be holding a varied series of technICAl and creative workshops and masterclasses for emerging women filmmakers.

As it stands, only 7% directors, 12% writers and 1% cinematographers are women. Yikes!

But fear not, hope is here - with key professionals leading sessions and special industry guests on hand to provide an invaluable insight into the industry, these festival workshops are designed to equip and encourage more women to crash through the barriers and breathe new life into those god-awful stats...

  • Its' true, women make music videos too! Clips and discussions from a panel of the most hip and talented female music video directors. Including clips of 'Sentimental Journey' by Yuki, 'Alala' by CSS and the legendary Kate Bush, emerging music vid. creators Kinga Burza, Lauren Pushkin, Lucy Sullivan and Vez Hoper will be joined by Dawn Shadforth, one of the most respected talents in this field. This event is a fantastic incite for any wannabe music vid. directors.

  • Fine Art To Film

  • Is fine art film if it's shown in the cinema? How is a film affected by being shown in a gallery? When is an artist an artist and when is she a filmmaker? We explore the increasingly regularly crossed boundary between fine art and film in a panel discussion with some of groundbreaking artists and filmmakers including Carol Morley, Clio Barnard and Laurie Simmons, showing extracts of their work alongside 'Family History' from Turner Prize winning Gillian Wearing. This event is in partnership with Film London Moving Artist's Network.
