Courses and Training

CWASU : Free Online Training On Violence And Prevention

London Metropolitan University are offering a unique opportunity to access online training on the issue of violence and abuse. This training is part of a European project called 'Apropos' to raise awareness of violence against women and children.

The course is aimed at those training to work in social welfare who might come across women and children who have experienced violence and abuse - i.e social workers, probation officers, nurses, residential workers, prison officers, mental health workers, outreach workers, housing officers. It will provide them with an understanding of violence and abuse and how they can support women and children who have experienced violence. As it is delivered online, it means that students can study when it is convenient to them and fit the course in with other commitments in their lives.

The course takes 6 months to complete online with an approximate weekly commitment of 5-6 hours. All students will have regular support from mentors at the Child and Woman and Abuse Studies Unit at London Metropolitan University who have been researching and delivering training on a range of issues of violence against women and child abuse. The content of the course draws on research evidence and takes the form of reading exercises, quizzes and discussion with other students.

Areas covered include:

  • What is gender based violence?
  • Violence in a global context
  • Sexual Exploitation and trafficking
  • Tools for practitioners
  • Creating safe spaces

Those who successfully complete the course will be awarded 25 European credits that can be used as accredited learning towards continued adult education. This will significantly add to professional and personal development.
