Course Description
This day will explore basic facts about domestic violence with a particular focus on how it affects teenagers. There will be an opportunity to learn how to challenge certain myths and stereotypes and to think about and discuss the main issues that teenagers may present with to your service and how domestic violence may be linked to them. The course will explain how to ask about violence in their own intimate relationships, how to give advice and how to risk assess and safety plan. There will be networking opportunities to discuss your own practice and meet other professionals working in similar fields.
Learning Objectives
To gain a basic awareness of domestic violence issues
To understand the myths and realities of domestic violence with particular reference to teenagers
To learn how to undertake safety planning and risk assessment with teenagers
To learn about service provision and good practice in London
Who Should Attend?
Anyone who works with adolescents where the issue of domestic violence may be a factor. The course is designed for professionals and practitioners who have not had previous training in domestic violence and the related issues. Examples of staff that would benefit from attending are:
