Hillcroft College : Women Into Management
12 x modules over approximately 1 year: Starting dates 19-21 January 2007
This course provides an in-depth understanding of effective people management styles. You will cover strategies for planning, organising and controlling work and resources, and how to make effective decisions. You will also learn how to manage information for effective communication; practice oral and written presentation skills and report writing. You will gain an understanding of business finance and cost management.
- Who is the course for? Women working in business or the voluntary sector who wish to progress into management or who want formal recognition of their experience and skills.
- What previous knowledge/skills required? Literacy and Numeracy at or above level 2 are desirable. You will need IT experience and will be asked to attend a Skills for Work assessment weekend or an interview.
- Assessment and qualification: ILM Certificate in First Line Management at Level 3
- Intended Learning: Managing individuals, groups and teams; recruiting and selecting individuals; improving and managing performance; and employee relations Ensuring quality customer service; planning, organising and controlling work; ensuring health & safety and environmentally sound working practices Controlling and designing information systems; using information for decision making; and developing effective oral and written communication Understanding the financial context of the organisation; controlling costs and budgeting; managing the supply chain and making decisions on use of critical resources Competencies in IT applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as using the internet for research purposes Increased confidence in presenting yourself and your ideas both written and orally.
