Hillcroft College : Wonderfully Different - For Women Who Have or Think They Have Dyslexia
2 Linked Weekends : 2-4 February 2007
This course, which is run over 2 weekends, is for women who are or think they may be dyslexic. It contains a range of activities to help women understand and live with their dyslexia. If you have experienced difficulties with reading or writing or organisation this course is for you. It is also for women who feel they learn in a different way to others and feel this has held them back.
The first weekend (2-4 February) explores the meaning of dyslexia. You will have the opportunity to share your experiences of life and learning - experiences, which may or may not relate to being dyslexic. Dyslexia for each person seems to be both the same in some ways but also different in many ways. The first weekend offers a chance to explore these similarities and differences.
The second weekend - is a skills and strategies weekend. It will depend on the needs and interests that come up during the first weekend. The second weekend is aimed at building on the skills and strategies that participants already have. Working with other participants and with the tutors, learners will be able to focus on those aspects of reading, writing, study and life that they want to deal with more successfully.
These can include:
- Writing skills
- Reading skills
- Organisational skills
- Study skills
- Dealing with the emotional side of dyslexia
- Using computers to study successfully
- Developing memory
