a very civil partnership - the impact of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 for your service users Including
  • an overview of the Civil Partnership Act 2004
  • how do I enter into a civil partnership?
  • what rights and responsibilities does it give me?
  • what happens if we have children?
  • what happens if we separate?

  • Trainer: Haema Sundram is a solicitor at Lynch & Co. She has practised family law for over ten years and specialises in issues affecting cohabiting couples and same sex couples in particular. She is an accredited Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) specialist in family law and has contributed to a number of articles on lesbian parenting.

  • the Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act 2004 – recent changes to the law

  • Trainer: Emma Scott is Senior Legal Officer at Rights of Women. She has practised law for over seven years specialising in family law in particular in relation to divorce, separation and disputes involving children. She has a particular interest in domestic violence and is Chair of the nia project (formerly Hackney Women's Aid).

  • Each participant will receive a copy of Rights of Women's Domestic Violence Do It Yourself Injunction Handbook

  • an overview of recent amendments to the Sex Discrimination Act on sexual harassment, pregnancy and maternity and pay

  • an introduction to the Equality Bill and the proposed Commission for Equality and Human Rights and changes to religious discrimination law
  • women only staff teams: how to use the genuine occupational qualification

  • Trainer: Sara Leslie is a solicitor at Leslie Owen specialising in equal pay and discrimination at work. She has been a solicitor for 20 years and has been awarded the Wainwright Trust Breakthrough Award for her contribution to equal opportunities in the workplace. She is co-author of Equal Pay (Law Society 2003) and an employment tribunal chair.

    • Founded in 1975, we are a not for profit voluntary organisation.
    • Our core service is our advice line which offers free, confidential legal advice to women.
    • We also specialise in providing high quality, practical and accredited training in the area of women's rights.
    • Our courses are especially popular with community and voluntary organisations working directly with women.
    • Our training programmes are valued for making the law transparent, accessible and user friendly, giving you the knowledge and skills to enable your service users to access justice.
    • This training is provided by women and is for women only.

    General Information About Our Courses

    • Book your place by downloading and completing the application form in word format here or downloading it from our website at http://www.rightsofwomen.org.uk
    • Free places may be available for organisations with a low income. Please contact us for details.
    • Confirmation of your place will be sent to you only when payment in full has been received.
    • Restrictions for attendance at our courses are a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 20.
    • Venue for all courses is the NCVO, Regents Wharf, 8 All Saints Street, London N1 9RL. Nearest tube: Kings Cross, nearest station King's Cross and Kings Cross Thameslink.
    • Refreshments will be provided. Lunch will be provided for those attending both courses on 14th November.
    • Accessibility is key to us reaching as wide a group of participants as possible. The training venue is fully accessible to wheelchair users; there is only one parking space for disabled drivers; an induction loop is available. If you require an induction loop or parking space for disabled drivers or if you have any other requirements (eg: written materials in different formats) please give details on your application form.
    • Accreditation (CPD): Rights of Women's training courses have been accredited by the Law Society and Bar Council. All course grades are introductory, updating or for those returning to practice.
