Pathways to Justice: BMER women, domestic violence and relationship breakdown

  • This new half-day course will explore the remedies available to BMER women who are experiencing domestic or sexual violence. The course will provide a comprehensive overview of the law that relates to relationship breakdown including, divorce, financial matters and children including:
  • Domestic violence injunctions: non-molestation orders and occupation orders
  • Divorce and financial matters following marital breakdown
  • Rights of co-habiting couples on relationship breakdown
  • An introduction to parental responsibility, child contact and residence including child abduction
  • Meeting the needs of diverse groups of women including Refugee or asylum seeking women and women with an insecure immigration status in the UK

  • Finding Refuge: gender-based violence and seeking asylum in the UK

  • This practical new half-day course is designed to introduce participants to the law that determines who should receive asylum or human rights protection in the UK and how their claim is determined. The course will focus on the needs of asylum-seeking women and will cover:
  • The legal framework for protection (including the Refugee Convention 1951, the European Convention on Human Rights 1950 and the EU Qualification Directive)
  • Applying for asylum in the UK (including the New Asylum Model and Legacy Cases)
  • Financial support throughout the process
  • The different types of protection given, refusal and appeals

  • All participants will receive a copy of our latest publication Pathways to Justice: BMER women, violence and the law.

    Cost:
    * Small voluntary sector organisations (income less than £500,000): £70 half day, £100 full day.
    * Larger voluntary sector organisations (income £500,000 and above); £100 half day, £130 full day.
    * Statutory sector/all others; £130 half day, £160 full day.
    * Rights of Women members are entitled to a 10% discount on all courses.
