Women's Radio Project
Thursdays on 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 June and 7,14, 21, 28 July 2005
Internet Broadcast: Saturday 30th July
- The project will engage economically inactive women, especially those from BME communities in Ealing and other West London boroughs in a media based project which will provide basic skills training in ICT.
- Through a structured learning programme the participants on the project will develop the skills and confidence to report and conduct interviews about issues of cultural interest and local concerns.
- They will learn how to promote local activities with people within their communities and the wider West London community.
- These skills will be achieved through practical training in interviewing techniques, researching local resources, using digital mini-disc recorders and Cool Edit/Audition software for editing recorded material.
- The learning programme will be delivered by experienced trainers from Women's Radio Group (WRG), a LOCN ( London Open College Network) registered training provider.
- The practical training will be delivered in WRG studios in Acton over ten weeks during June and July 2005, culminating in an Internet Broadcast.
- There will be 10 x 5 hour sessions (11.00 am – 4.00 pm) one day each week.
- In between sessions there will be one-to-one mentoring and advice via telephone and email.
- There will also be support tutoring via WRG website.
- Learning how to access websites will an essential part of the ICT training.
- Each participant will be assisted in Internet access during the programme of training and afterwards through identifying access via libraries, Community Learning Centres, media projects and other Internet providers.
- The WRG trainers are ESOL trained and will support participants in English language skills if this is appropriate.
- All training will be conducted in English.
- The recorded interviews and reports will be offered to local community based media such as radio, newspaper or websites and used either as contributions towards programmes (e.g. interviews for broadcast, clips or information for websites, quotes for newspapers ) or source material for further media coverage.
