Housing and Legal Options for Women Experiencing Domestic Violence on 9th and 10th May 2007
This two-day course is available for any professional wishing to gain further understanding of the legal and housing options available to women experiencing domestic violence. It covers the following issues:
Advantages and disadvantages of different housing options;
occupancy rights for clients whose relationships have broken down due to domestic violence;
the Civil Partnership Act; civil-law injunctions (non-molestation orders and occupation orders);
Protection from Harassment Act;
Crime and Victims Act;
the criminal justice system;
temporary and long-term housing options;
housing legislation and interviewing skills.
All participants should have previous training in domestic violence awareness.
Domestic Violence and Good Practice Awareness Training on 16th and 17th May 2007
This course aims to give front line agency staff an understanding of domestic violence, its impact upon clients and ways in which agencies can effectively identify and respond to client needs. The course will cover the following areas:
definitions and statistics;
different forms of domestic violence and their impact on women;
children’s experience of domestic violence (brief overview);
reasons why clients may remain in or return to violent relationships;
specific factors affecting particular client groups;
process of help seeking model (how clients seek help);
sources of help/how to make appropriate referrals;
identifying domestic violence and effectively responding to disclosures;
confidentiality and documentation;
risk assessment/safety strategies.
No previous experience required.
