Woman's Trust : Supporting BME and LG&B Clients experiencing domestic violence
Supporting Black and Minority Ethnic Clients Experiencing Domestic Violence
Date: Wed.17th October 2007, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Fee: £40 voluntary sector / £62 statutory sector
Venue: West London
This half-day course is suitable for generic or front line workers who work with black or minority ethnic clients who may be experiencing domestic violence and who want to improve their ability to provide effective support. Handout/information packs will be provided on the day. This course will cover the following areas: specific areas which BME clients experiencing domestic violence may face in relation to accessing support services and/or leaving abusive relationships; support options which may be available to clients with insecure immigrations status; effective and appropriate interpretation for clients with language barriers; generic and specialist support services (local and National); developing good practice.
No previous experience required.
Supporting Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients Experiencing Domestic Violence
Date: Wed. 17th October 2007, 2-5 p.m.
Fee: £40 voluntary sector / £62 statutory sector
Venue: West London
This half-day course is suitable for generic and LGB frontline workers who work with lesbian, gay, and bisexual clients who may be experiencing domestic violence and want to improve their ability to provide effective support. Handout/information packs will be provided on the day. This course will cover the following areas: barriers LGB clients may face in relation to accessing help and support; legal rights and options developments created by The Civil Partnership Act 2004 and the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004; generic and specialist support services (local and National); agency good practice in relation to LGB clients experiencing domestic violence.

Children and Domestic Violence

Fee: £80 voluntary sector/£125 statutory sector
This one-day course is aimed at all staff working in agencies which work with women and children experiencing domestic violence and will cover the following issues: ways in which children experience domestic violence; impact of domestic violence on children; child protection issues; issues related to residency and contact; prevention work and sources of help and good practice.
Please note: you need to have attended the Domestic Violence Awareness training in order to attend this course.
