This two day multi-agency training course aims to give front line agency staff an in-depth and practical understanding of how to identify, understand and respond to clients experiencing domestic violence. The course includes a number of experiential exercises and case studies and covers the following areas:
Definitions and statistics
Different forms of domestic violence and their impact on clients
Power and control dynamics within abusive relationships
Reasons why clients may remain in or return to abusive relationships
Factors affecting specific client groups including clients with insecure immigration status, disabled clients, clients from black and minority ethnic communities, lesbian and gay clients and older clients
Ideas for improving agency ability to identify clients affected by domestic violence and provide an environment which empowers and enables clients to make disclosures
Ways in which professionals can respond effectively to domestic violence including the ability to make appropriate referrals

Confidentiality and documentation
Risk assessment and safety strategies
