Daycare Trust : Listening and learning: putting passion into policy
Daycare Trust Annual Conference 2006

Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London
Wednesday 8 November 2006

The National Childcare Campaign will this year offer a unique opportunity for parents, carers, children and childcare workers to put their point of view across to key players from central government, local authorities and national voluntary organisations.

With the government's Comprehensive Spending Review underway, rarely has there been a more appropriate time for this conference to take place as the government considers how resources will be allocated for childcare for 2008-2011. Daycare Trust's conference will ensure that those with influence listen and learn from the views presented in a variety of ways including film clips, workshops and question and answer sessions by those involved with frontline childcare services.

Daycare Trust will also be releasing a new report detailing progress with the Government's 10-year Childcare Strategy and will be canvassing opinion among delegates as to what more is needed

The conference will be addressed by the Rt Hon Alan Johnson, Secretary of State for Education and Skills in a keynote speech in the morning session. To close proceedings the Rt Hon Beverley Hughes, Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families will draw lessons from the conference's meetings and discussions, and address the issue of the 'Challenge for Government'.

Speaking on the significance of this years conference Alison Garnham, Joint Chief Executive of Daycare Trust, said:

'This is a conference where everyone's voice will count. We will hear about childcare from the point of view of children and parents as well as hearing the facts and figures about what progress has been made with the Government's 10-year strategy. The timing is perfect for anyone wishing to influence the Government's Spending Review this year and wants to make sure we get the long-awaited universal childcare we deserve and have waited so long for in this country.'
