Lilith : Save Our Pond

Another women-only space in London is under threat.

The Corporation of London took over the management of Hampstead Heath 16 years ago on the abolition of the GLC. To correct a budget overspend, the Corporation Hampstead Heath Management Committee proposes that the famous Hampstead Heath 'Ladies' Pond', a women-only swimming pond, should be closed permanently as there is 'no place for single-sex ponds any more'.

The loss of the women's pond is a blow to residents, women who don't want to share mixed swimming facilities, tourists and the London community.

A campaign to save the pond is being coordinated by some Camden residents, who advise that anyone wishing to help do the following

There is also a meeting of the Kenwood Ladies Pond Association to share strategies for a campaign on Monday 6th December, at 7.30pm, at St. Mary Brookfield Church, Dartmouth Park Hill, NW5, nearest tube, Tufnell Park.

Write to the linked contacts with letters outlining why the ponds should be kept open and any personal testimonials of using the Hampstead facilities.
