Eaves (for Lilith) : Women, Disability, Violence and Abuse

The aim of the seminar is to highlight the violence/abuse that Disabled women experience; the need for agencies in the statutory and voluntary sector to provide appropriate support; and to share best practice to empower Disabled women to overcome the trauma of their experiences. The seminar also highlights the disabling effect that violence/abuse has on women (psychological and physical) and the need to develop strategies to prevent violence against women.

Speakers include:

  • Pauline Magowan, Research Fellow, University of Bristol and activist;
  • Sarah Maguire, Human Rights Lawyer/practitioner;
  • Anne Pridmore, Chair, British Council of Disabled People.

Workshops facilitated by Powerhouse and Ashiana Network.

The seminar is aimed at:

  • Statutory agencies: Primary Care Trust's, The Haven's, Police Services, Social Services, Housing Departments, Supporting People Teams etc.
  • Voluntary sector agencies: refuges, hostels, counselling services, advocacy projects
  • Any other individuals or organisations interested in working to support and empower Disabled women.
