Eaves (for Lilith) : Who's Perverting the Course of Justice?

  • "Woman jailed over rape lies"
  • "Woman found guilty of crying rape"
  • "Sex attack liar named by Peer"

Sound familiar?

Women who cannot prove that they have been raped are being charged with 'perverting the course of justice', vilified by the press, and in some cases jailed (see below). Justice for Women and Eaves Lilith Project are holding an emergency meeting to address this issue.

  • Tuesday 12th December, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
  • The Ainsworths Centre, 42 Welbeck Street, London W1G 8DU
  • Nearest tube: Bond Street

Is this Justice?

Case 1
A woman reported that a man followed her into her home, told her "you know you are gagging for it" and raped her. She had never had sex with a man before. She reported the attack to the Police, and then called the Samaritans and her partner. Forensic examination found that intercourse had taken place and noted bruising on her neck and breasts. The examiner found no saliva traces on her breasts and could not determine the age of the bruising. She has been convicted of 'perverting the course of justice' and is threatened with a custodial sentence. Her name, address and sexuality have been published in local papers. In court she said "I have the courage to stand here and take this because I have done nothing wrong."

Case 2
A woman says she was abused in 2 relationships, but was only able to report the offences once the abusive relationships ended. As with many sexual offences, the Crown did not take the cases to court. She maintains that the attacks took place. She has been convicted of perverting the course of justice and jailed for a year.

Case 3
A woman secured a conviction against a man for rape. He was jailed. After 3 years his conviction was quashed by the court of appeal on the grounds that the woman had reported previous rapes perpetrated against her as a child and as an adult, but the Crown had not prosecuted these cases. She was named in the national press and in the House of Lords.

What Can I Do?

In some countries women who cannot prove that they have been raped are then tried for crimes such as adultery or having sex outside of marriage. Is this the way the UK is heading? We need to act now to stop this travesty of justice.

Please attend the emergency meeting
