Fawcett : Policy developments around sexual violence : Seminar

A seminar bringing together service providers and policy makers
24 March 2004 from 1.30pm to 4.45pm
Westminster venue, to be confirmed*

Fawcett would like to invite you to a seminar which will bring together service providers working with victims of sexual offences, politicians and policy makers to discuss the policy agenda around sexual violence. With the new Sexual Offences Act coming into force and the recent formation of the Inter-Departmental Ministerial Group on Sexual Offending to oversee implementation of the Act, it is a crucial moment for these groups to come together, and ensure that the voices of service providers are heard in the policy process.

Paul Goggins MP, Home Office Minister and Deputy Chair of the Ministerial Group, will speak and answer questions on the implementation of the Sexual Offences Act and the work of the Committee. The seminar will also hear from Vera Baird QC MP, chair of Fawcett's Commission on Women and the Criminal Justice System, Professor Liz Kelly, Director of the Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit, and a representative of the Metropolitan Police's Project Sapphire.

The final session of the meeting will be devoted to open discussion, allowing service providers to raise the issues of concern to them. A note of this discussion will be formally submitted to relevant Government departments, interested MPs and to the Ministerial Committee. The seminar is being supported by the Women's National Commission. We do hope you will be able to join us for these important discussions.
