Fawcett Launch Of Sexism And The City!
“Often client after-work meetings became visits to strip clubs, and I knew senior guys who had told HR they wanted a new junior team member and that she must be slim, blond and pretty. Screensavers and pictures of semi-naked women were not uncommon around the office." Kate, former City worker
On Tuesday 1st April Fawcett is launching a ground-breaking new campaign, Sexism and the City. Why? Because nearly 40 years on from the outlawing of discrimination against women in the workplace, sexism remains rife.
Sexism has no place in UK business or society in 2008. The time for action is now. Fawcett is building a strong alliance of individuals and organisations to lobby for the policy and culture changes needed to create workplaces fit for women.
Get Involved!
Show your support for the campaign by attending the launch. Speakers include: Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell MP; Fleur Bothwick, Ernst & Young; Katherine Rake, Director of the Fawcett Society; Polly, former City employee; Lucy, former lapdance club performer; and Elizabeth, a cleaner in the City.
Date & time: Tuesday 1 April 2008, 1.30-3.00pm
Venue: London Development Agency, Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, London. SE1 8AA
