Fawcett : Women's No Pay Day 2008

Last year, we labelled October 30th as Women’s No Pay Day – the day that women receive their last payslip of the year thanks to the 17% pay gap.

On that day, we presented Gordon Brown with our payslip for nothing. Fawcett supporters held 12 events in 9 cities across the UK to raise awareness of the pay gap and 3,300 people signed our petition to Gordon Brown, making it the 65th most popular petition out of 8658 on the Number 10 website. Cosmopolitan, the Guardian, the Financial Times, Channel 4 News and countless others – both local and national - all covered the campaign.

A year later and the pay gap is still stuck at 17%. But this year the Government’s Equality Bill presents an incredible opportunity for change.

So join us on October 30th to shout even louder on No Pay Day.

Put on an event! Download our factsheet to holding an event by following the link on a right. Grab a few friends and take to your streets! Fawcett will support you to contact your local media to raise awareness of the pay gap, and see what impact you can have.

Here’s what a few of our local groups said about putting on events last year:

“We gave out 300 leaflets and the 200 badges in 2 hours. We talked to so many people, and had our photo taken for the local newspaper. It was such a great experience, thank you ever so much for arranging the No Pay Day. It was really shocking how many people were completely unaware of the pay gap and really wanted to know more.”

“We were joined by the Parliamentary Candidate for the Labour Party in Wimbledon, who was very keen to support our campaign. His team helped us hand out leaflets and we even got our stickers on his balloons!”
