Workshops in the Afternoon
IMECE Turkish Speaking Women’s Group, established in 1982, is a non-profit organisation working for the empowerment of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Women, particularly, Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot women. IMECE aims to attain equality by providing specialist advice, information, advocacy and counselling services on domestic violence, education, housing, welfare benefits, immigration issues etc. IMECE runs several domestic violence projects to raise awareness of DV and specific BME issues, to improve local and national services for Black and Ethnic Minority Women experiencing domestic violence, to increase survivors’ safety and well-being and to provide capacity building services for smaller BMER organizations to improve their domestic violence services.
This full day national Conference will examine local and national policies on gender based violence and the level of representation of BME women in policy planning and service delivery. This conference will bring key people in policy-making processes, service providers, BME organisations, police, lawyers and researchers together to develop strategies to promote inclusion of BME women at all levels and improve their access to services and the legal system .
Conference Aims
To highlight specific needs of BME women survivors of gender-based violence
To examine and evaluate policy responses to gender based violence experienced by BME women
To develop strategies to improve the response of legal system for women particularly BME women experiencing gender –based violence
