LAWRS : Exilio: Latin American Portraits in London
29 July - 3 August (with the exception of Sunday 30 July), Red Gate Gallery, Coldharbour Lane, London, SW9
The main features of this exhibition are a film and a photographic display. Film and photographs are based on twelve in-depth life history interviews with Latin American refugees living in London. The exhibition explore the difficulties of making a home away from home and coming to terms with living in exile. The photographs are portraits of the interviewees and aim to reflect the character and personality of each of them.
The exhibition will be open every evening from 4.30pm - 8.30pm. A documentary film featuring the interviewees will be shown every day at 6pm. Other activities, including the showing of a range of Latin American films, will be ongoing throughout the week. There will be a final showing of the documentary on the closing evening, 3 August, followed by live music.
This exhibition is part of the Refugee Communities History Project coordinated by the Evelyn Oldfield Unit and supported by the Museum of London and the London Metropolitan University, and part of a partnership between the Latin American Women's Rights Service, The Latin American Elderly Project and The Latin American Disabled People's Project.
