London Irish Women's Centre : Nell McCafferty at LIWC 25th Anniversary

This lady’s not for spurning!

The Irish journalist and feminist, Nell McCafferty, visits the London Irish Women’s Centre (LIWC) on Saturday, October 25, 2008, to help celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Described in The Guardian as “part Germaine Greer, part Mae West - a woman you shouldn’t spurn”, Nell will join three other women of Irish birth or descent in a conversation that promises to be robust and stimulating.

Health Specialist, Dr Mary Tilki, Irish Traveller, Ally Ward, and Ken Livingstone’s former advisor on women in London, Anni Marjorem, will complete the panel to share their experiences of being members of an ethnic minority in the capital. They’ll also explore the common ground occupied by ethnic communities.

Nuala Conlan, Chair of The London Irish Women’s Centre, believes that “this meeting of hearts and minds will be the perfect celebration for a centre that has been a haven of creativity and free expression for Irish women for a quarter of a century”.

The current Director of the centre, Tish Collins, says that “LIWC is committed to offering the most practical support to Irish women and their families” and that “this gathering in the company of Nell McCafferty will help us to steer a new course for the next 25 years and beyond”.

Nell McCafferty will be speaking at London Irish Women’s Centre celebratory meeting at 10.30 am on Saturday 25th October 2008 at Toynbee Hall, 28 Commercial Street, Spitalfields, London E1 6LS.
