Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Matchstick Girl
Adapted, directed and performed by Gavin Skerritt

"Beautifully executed... The production is hugely atmospheric, and produces a succession of enchanting images that are quite bewitching to watch...This inventive and ambitious show has much to recommend it." The Stage

  • Supported by Arts Council England and NAADV
  • Developed by David Alcock, Irene Hardy and Knut Østrådal
  • Lighting by Alex Killick

On a bitterly cold evening a little matchstick girl is out on the streets alone, unable to sell her matches. For warmth she lights them one-by-one and through their flames she sees a succession of visions...a sparkling spinning Christmas tree...a ballet dancing chicken...a singing picture frame. In a unique combination of puppetry, mask and music The Little Matchstick Girl finally finds the love and happiness she needs.

This magical production is brought to you by an emerging talent of British puppet animation who combines song, humour and dramatic visual storytelling in a compelling adaptation of this classic Hans Christian Andersen tale.

A family show suitable for children over the age of 6.
