Forthcoming Event
WAFE : Empowering Women for Peace and Democracy
- Realising the Third Millennium Goal
- 21st-24th April 2008
Mission Statement
- We are committed to the advancement of women and of democracy which recognises the value of every individual
- We oppose religious extremism in all faiths, with its endemic misogyny
- We promote peaceful conflict resolution to protect lives and prevent appalling damages on the environment
- We work toward getting more women into decision-making positions to contribute to gender equality and democracy
Project
This event is jointly initiated and organised by WAFE (International Federation of Women against Fundamentalism and for Equality) and WFWP (Women for World Peace International). It arose from our concern to advance the cause of gender equality in national decision making. Equal representation in national Parliaments would certainly bring changes in national policies. Women care significantly more than men about environment protection and about peaceful conflict resolution. Fifty percent women in the British Parliament would certainly be reflected in our national policies.
We are therefore initiating a series of events to encourage and assist women who are considering entering political life, starting on April 21st with an evening meeting in the House of Lords. It will be chaired by Baroness Harris of Richmond, Patron of WAFE, and addressed by women of international distinction in political life. On April 24th,we shall hold our first day of information and practical experience for women considering political activity, followed by an evening to celebrate women's advancement.
