Women's Design Service : Consultation Event

Do you use or live near Ruislip Woods?

  • Get involved in shaping the future of London's public parks and green spaces and help us make them safer for women.
  • Come and join us on SATURDAY 30TH APRIL at 11.0 am at the boathouse at Ruislip Lido
  • Tell us your safety concerns, and help us find solutions that will make London's parks, open spaces and woodlands safer for women.
  • Followed by free lunch and a walk around Ruislip Woods with us

Hillingdon Council want to encourage more people to use the woods, so help us to improve safety by showing us the unsafe spots and telling us about your experiences. It's your green space so please help us to make it better!

We'll pay for travel, refreshments and childcare expenses. There will be activities for children of participants supervised by council officials; please let us know if you want to take advantage of this opportunity. Please also inform us if you have any specific access or dietary requirements. We plan to finish by 3.30pm.

WOMEN'S SAFETY IN PARKS AND GREENSPACES (a project to produce a Toolkit for the Greater London Authority) RUISLIP WOODS

Hillingdon Council is planning to make improvements to walks in Ruislip Woods, and is particularly interested to find out what would encourage more women to visit the area.

Women's Design Service is therefore organising this event to find out the views of a range of women from different ages and backgrounds.

There will be a meeting in the Boathouse at Ruislip Lido at 11.0 to discuss your ideas. We want to talk with women of different ages and backgrounds and are particularly interested in the views of women with disabilities who may have very specific issues about using woodland paths. We are very keen to involve women with young children, but it is possible that some women might want to raise issues at the meeting that might not be appropriate for younger children to hear. We are therefore planning to have some suitable activity for children supervised by Council officials during the meeting, or we will pay for childcare if you prefer. After the meeting there will be a free lunch, and any children will then be more than welcome to join us for the rest of the day as we value their input too. We will be walking through the woods, recording your comments and taking photographs.

During the summer the Council will be making improvements to the woods and will try to include your suggestions and recommendations where possible. We will be asking you to come back in the autumn to give us your views about how successful the changes have been.

The Greater London Authority is interested in improving safety for women in parks across the capital, and the ideas you have will be used to help produce information for parks all across London. This will be in the form of a “toolkit” for park managers and designers.

Please download and complete the attached form if you would like to take part and we will contact you with further information in due course.

Or contact Valerie Vauthier at: Women's Design Service, 52-54, Featherstone St, London EC1Y 8RT - Tel 020 7490 5210 - Email vvauthier@wds.org.uk

We will pay for travel expenses and childcare and there will be a free lunch. Participants can claim a £10 vouchers from a shop still to be determined at the end of the event as a “thank you” for taking part.
