National Conference
Friday 18th November 2005
DSC Charity Centre, 24 Stephenson Way, London NW1
Making Safer Places is a 3 year pilot project run by the Women's Design Service. It has involved carrying out Women's Community Safety Audit Training with groups of local women to explore how the built environment impacts upon women's perceptions of safety. The project has delivered in the cities of Manchester, Bristol and London by involving local women in auditing their area and developing recommendations for improving their locality in relation to safety.
Planning Safer Places, run in partnership between WDS and Planning Aid for London, has involved women in making their neighbourhoods safer. The conference will present the outcomes of these projects. The conference will also offer an opportunity for those working or volunteering in the fields of community safety, urban design and equalities to explore issues related to women's safety in urban environments.
