Another World Is Possible
Come to a preparatory meeting on Saturday 3rd July from 2.30 to 5.30 pm at the London School of Economics (LSE), Aldwych, London WC2 and hear more about the London ESF from Hilary Wainwright (Red Pepper and Researcher for the New Politics Project of the Trans-national Institute), Naima Bouteldja (Just Peace) and Julie Stoll (Babels)
The ESF will be held from the evening of Thursday 14th October to Sunday 17th October at Alexandra Palace - the People's Palace - in North London will be the venue for big meetings, seminars, workshops and cultural events. Other events will be held in the university area of central London. Twenty to fifty thousand activists will be coming from all over Europe and the UK to join in discussing and debating how to bring about social change - the better world that we know is possible.
At the ESF there will be discussions about democracy and women's rights, world trade, debt and privatisation, the environment, racism, asylum, militarism and war and as many more issues as campaigning groups are able to put forward, and for which there is space.
It has been agreed that at this year's ESF women's concerns and a gender analysis will be a thread across all the issues addressed at the event. This is an opportunity for women's groups, organisations and networks to meet to discuss, debate and develop our ideas and our campaigning plans with those organising on similar issues across Europe and internationally.
It gives us an opportunity to link up and present seminars to a very wide public on issues that concern us. The system for groups to offer seminars will be open until July 25th. This is the reason that the National Alliance of Women's Organisations (NAWO), in partnership with the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and supported by the UK Asian Women's Conference (UKAWC) are inviting you to come to the LSE on Saturday 3rd July 2.30-5.30 pm to hear more about the World Social Forum (WSF) Movement, and to have an opportunity to meet women from other organisations. There will be time to split into areas of interest so that we can prepare subjects to present for seminars. To find out more about this process visit the website: http://www.fse-esf.org/en/seminars.html
The National Alliance of Women's Organisations is planning to take part in the ESF and thinking about running a seminar or workshop on civil dialogue and democracy building, especially for women. We are hosting this meeting because we see the ESF as a great opportunity for women's organisations.
We have decided to hold our meeting on a Saturday to enable women living out of London and those who could not attend during the week to take part in this discussion.
It is very important that we know the numbers of women who will be coming. So please email us at info@nawo.org.uk and let us know if:
- You are coming to the meeting on July 3rd
- You are already active in the ESF process
- Your Nme
- Your Organisation
- Your Conact e-mail
