Forthcoming Event

WRC : Consultation on the Future of Volunteering

  • Wednesday 6th June 2007
  • From 10am-1.30pm
  • At the Women's Resource Centre
  • WRC will be holding an event in partnership with the Commission on the Future of Volunteering. This will be a fabulous networking opportunity for those who play a vital role in their organisations, and who often do not get the support and recognition they deserve. The free event will include a networking lunch and opportunities to contribute your experiences and opinions to the Commission.

This event is an opportunity to discuss volunteering, and to highlight the value of women volunteers and the vital contribution of volunteers to the women's sector. The event will be attended by Meta Zimmeck, of Volunteering England, and by Baroness Neuberger, Chair of the Commission, so you will be feeding your views and experiences directly to the Commission.

Why should women's organisations contribute to the Commission?

  • Many women's organisations are run entirely or almost entirely by volunteers. Therefore women's organisations have a wealth of experience, stories and statistics to demonstrate how vital volunteering is to the organisations, services and community as a whole.
  • Volunteering offers important opportunities for all women, especially those who may otherwise find it difficult to gain the skills offered by volunteering. Volunteering allows women access to social interaction, builds their confidence, and offers experience in their chosen job sector. This is particularly relevant to refugee and migrant women; women who wish to re-enter the job market after a period looking after having children; and opportunities to anyone wishing to work in the women's sector.
  • The commission is genuinely interested and keen to hear from women and women's organisations. As already mentioned, the women's voluntary and community sector has a great deal of experience of volunteering, and it is very important that this information is available to the Commission, so that they can use it in their conclusions.
  • Who is the event for?

  • The event is for female volunteers and staff who work with volunteers.
  • Event Programme:
    09:30 - 10:00 Registration and refreshments
    10:00 - 10:15 Opening remarks
    10:15 - 11:15 First session
    11:15 - 11:30 Coffee breaks
    11:30 - 12:30 Second session
    12:30 - 12:45 Wrap Up and Evaluations
    12:45 - 13:30 Lunch

The event is to be held on Wednesday of Volunteer's Week, and is a great opportunity to get a group of volunteers together to come and talk about why they volunteer.

If you'd like to attend the event please download and fill in a booking form from http://www.wrc.org.uk/downloads/bookingform.doc

Women's Resource Centre has also produced a Briefing and Questionnaire.

It explains more about the consultation and the key issues for women and women's organisations, and has questions to answer for you to feed in your views and experiences into the consultation. The questionnaire will take between 5 and 20 minutes. We will pass the responses directly to the Commission.

  • Access the Briefing and Questionnaire online http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=486143706991
  • Access the Briefing and Questionnaire in word document http://www.wrc.org.uk/downloads/Policystuff/Questionnaire%20on%20Commission%20on%20the%20future%20of%20volunteering.doc
  • The questionnaire closes 5pm, Thursday 7 June 2007
  • If you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch.
