Older Lesbian Network

Purpose:

OLN was formed in 1984 to provide a safe space for older lesbians to meet socially for discussion, support and fun. It is organised on a volunteer basis and is open to all lesbians who are 40+. Many women have a feminist perspective and women of all backgrounds, religions, cultures and physical abilities are welcome—our venue is fully wheelchair accessible.(We are not an appropriate organisation for transsexuals.)

At our monthly meetings we bring food to share (there is always plenty to go round if you forget) and the day starts with a social lunchtime until 2pm. There are three women appointed each month to welcome newcomers and to introduce them to other women. If you have any queries at any time then just ask one of these "Icebreakers". At 2pm there is an opportunity to join various workshops, although this is not compulsory and you may just want to sit and chat. There is always a "Getting to Know You" workshop which is a good idea if it is your first time at OLN; other choices depend on what individual women can offer and have included arts and crafts, various discussion groups and the production of our own Pantomime one Christmas.

Around 3pm we have a tea-break then a brief news meeting to discuss post, swap info and arrange any social events. This may be followed by another short workshop or we just sit and chat before finishing around 5.30pm. Afterwards many of us go for a drink and/or a meal—everyone is welcome and again, this is optional. There is also a library and a monthly newsletter you can subscribe to. If you want to meet other older lesbians and make new friends then come along to OLN. We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 12.30pm at the Community Centre, 50 Millman Street, London WC1, near Russell Sq tube. Parking is free from 1.30pm.

Donations to cover our costs are: Highly waged £6, waged £4, unwaged £1.
