South London Fawcett Group (SLFG)
- Purpose:
- To promote equality between the sexes, to campaign on issues of concern to women living in south London, and to join in the larger campaigns mounted by the Fawcett Society. We try to support other women's organisations in south London to the best of our ability.
- Activities:
- We meet monthly (except in August) for discussion and planning for campaigns.
- Outside speakers are welcome to these meetings, and over the past two years we have had two large lecture meetings open to the public.
- We take stalls at the summer fairs held in south London, often inviting women to answer a questionnaire on issues of concern to them.
- Surveys are then prepared on the basis of answers to these questionnaires and forwarded to relevant departments in government and local government. Subjects we have tackled are: public transport, the environment, community services, women's political activities, and pensions.
- We offer some financial support to members who wish to take training in subjects of interest to the Group or attend conferences.
- We also meet socially three or four times in the year.
