The Sexual Violence Action and Awareness Network (SVAAN)
- Purpose:
- SVAAN exists to support the work of sexual violence organisations by improving access to sustainable funding and providing a conduit for communication between front line services and policy makers.
- The Network was founded on the belief that all women and girls who experience sexual violence should have access to free, high quality, adequately resourced support services which meet their needs.
- SVAAN members range from rape crisis services, researchers and self defence training groups, to lobbying groups and charities working with childhood sexual abuse.
- The Network is coordinated by the Lilith Project, which is part of Eaves.
- Activities:
- SVAAN meets every 2 months, to discuss funding opportunities, legislative updates, peer networking and support. Guest speakers whose work is of interest to members are often invited.
- SVAAN circulate monthly email updates with specific sexual violence related events, new opportunities and training.
- Meetings and groups email provide a mechanism for responding to consultation documents and feeding into Government and other statutory sector forums.
