Join the European Social Forum!
On his first day in office, George W Bush re-imposed the Global Gag Rule. This policy denies USAID funding to family planning organisations that promote or perform abortions and has a devastating effect on women worldwide, especially in poorer countries where the vast majority of unsafe abortions take place.
Around the world, including in the UK, we are witnessing relentless attacks on women's right to abortion. This is not an isolated issue, but one which is very closely linked to all aspects of women's rights and relates more generally to violence against women. We believe that a woman's right to control her body is central to her broader freedom.
Abortion Rights has taken the lead in tabling two seminars* focusing on women's right to choose at the next European Social Forum (ESF).
We are urging organisation like yours to participate in the next ESF, which will be taking place in London, from 14 to 17 October 2004. This is a unique opportunity for activists and campaigners to get together and promote social change. For further details about ESF, please check their website: http://www.fse-esf.org.
*Abortion Rights seminars supported by trade and student unions, for the next ESF:
- Implications of Bush's Global Gag Rule
- Assessing the state of reproductive rights in Europe, both within national and EU context.
Join Abortion Rights and support our proposed seminars as part of a wider forum on women's rights and equality. Your support is instrumental in keeping women's issues on the agenda.
