Daycare Trust : Creative kids launch childcare celebration
A competition urging children to show how they feel about their childcare, launched by national childcare charity Daycare Trust on April 11th, is the springboard for this year's National Childcare Week, running from 11th-15th June on the theme, "Childcare Benefits for Life".
The competition got off to a colourful start with a workshop in the London International Gallery of Children's Art, in the O2 Centre, Finchley Road, London. Children from Hampstead Community Centre Playscheme worked with a professional artist to get started on their entries.
Categories for the competition are:
- Under 7s: Make a "thank you" card for your childcarer.
- 7-9-year-olds: Make a poster to advertise your breakfast club, after-school club or holiday scheme.
- 10+: Be a reporter for the day, by writing an article about a day in your breakfast club, after-school club or holiday scheme.
The closing date is May 18th, and the winners will be presented with a prize at an awards ceremony in central London during National Childcare Week.
The theme of this year's National Childcare Week is "Childcare Benefits for Life", a celebration of the benefits of quality, affordable childcare.
Alison Garnham, Joint-chief Executive, said:
"Good childcare gives childen a great start in life. It enables parents to work or train and it contributes to a prosperous society by supporting employers and regenerating local communities. It also underpins policies to tackle social exclusion, create jobs and raise educational standards."
"We're inviting everyone to join us in celebrating the benefits of childcare in a week of activities from 11-15 June this year."
Another highlight of the week will be a conference releasing findings from the Daycare Trust's most recent research project, "Listening to Parents".
Celebrations will also be held in childcare settings around the country. The winning competition entries will be printed in a newspaper-style booklet.
