Fawcett : Contribute to our savings & debt project

We all know about the pay gap by now (if you don’t, click on our equal pay link)

But did you know that the gender savings gap is even bigger? Or that divorced women are much more likely find themselves in debt than divorced men? Fawcett’s new project aims to highlight these differences and come up with some solutions.

We’ve got oodles of statistics to prove our case, but to have the maximum impact, we need to tell stories behind the numbers. That’s where you can help.

What we want you to do

There are a variety of roles you can play. We want women who

  • can simply give us a few sentences to quote in our report on how their savings/debt levels and priorities have been affected by events such as childbirth (eg something as simple as: “After the birth of my child, I found it was often me and not my partner who had to find the extra money we needed for those unexpected things.. I’m not sure why, it’s just how it happened and it made it harder to save.”)
  • can act as case studies in the report (named or anonymous)
  • will talk at our launch event about their experiences

What kind of women can get involved?

We want to hear from all kinds of women. Perhaps you are a mum and having kids means you can no longer save for retirement? Perhaps you are a lone parent, finding it very difficult to save for a rainy day or in debt? Maybe you are divorced or separated and have a very different story to tell from the media tales of huge divorce settlements?

It’s not just these examples that we are looking for. We’d like to talk to any women who have found it difficult or impossible to save or have got into debt because of having children, getting divorced, low-pay or part-time pay or other gender-related reasons. Your case can help us argue ours.

If you think you can help

If you think you might be able to contribute to this campaign, call or email Jenny Westaway, Project Manager (Women’s Financial Assets) at Fawcett.

She will discuss your case with you in strict confidence and talk about whether you could be involved and exactly how. There’s no commitment if you get in touch, so please do! 020 7253 2598 or jenny.westaway@fawcettsociety.org.uk
