Object : Bill to Tighten Lap Dance Licensing Announced
On Wednesday morning (2nd December 2008), the Queen announced that tougher licensing of lap dancing clubs will be included in the Home Office Policing and Crime Reduction Bill.
The announcement was made as part of the Queen's Speech (a yearly speech made at the State Opening of Parliament in which the Queen outlines the Government's priority legislation for the year ahead). You can watch the Queen speak about lap dancing here.
The Speech confirms the previous day's announcement by the Government. You can listen to Object's spokeswoman and others discuss the news on Radio 4 Woman's Hour.
Watch this space to see the next steps in the campaign as Object working, alongside the Fawcett Society, ensures the Bill progresses through Parliament and is then properly implemented at the local level.
Thank You
It is only because of the huge amount of work, the support and enthusiasm of all our supporters - whether activists, MPs, councillors or experts - including former lap dancers - that this Bill has been announced, barely over 6 months from the campaign's launch.

Donate to Object
But despite this success, it is still extremely hard for us to gain funding from traditional sources as we are still seen to be dealing with a 'controversial issue'. To date, only one funder (the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust) has committed to support this campaign - and has pledged to match any donations made. So whatever funds we raise now could, in effect, be doubled!
That is why we are sending out this Christmas Appeal. Perhaps you would like to donate, perhaps you could 'spread the word' to your friends and family, perhaps you could request a donation or direct debit to Object as one of your Christmas prezzies, or give it as a novel gift yourself ?
