Description:

Refuge is a national charity, which provides a lifeline for women and children experiencing domestic violence. We are currently looking to recruit a Female* staff member to provide invaluable advocacy, practical and emotional support to women who have fled or are affected by domestic violence..

Based in South London, your role will be to provide advocacy, advice and support to women from Portuguese speaking communities affected by domestic violence. You will empower women to increase their safety and make informed choices about their future lives through the provision of emotional support, information about legal, welfare and housing rights and practical assistance. You will build strong working relationships with partnership agencies to ensure that the local community is able to meet the needs of Portuguese-speaking women experiencing domestic violence.

You will have experience of supporting or advising women in a community or social work setting. You will additionally have excellent written and oral communication skills, experience of liaising with other agencies and up to date knowledge of current welfare, housing and legal rights. A non-judgemental attitude and an understanding of the possible impact of domestic violence on Portuguese-speaking women are also required.

Candidates should be able to speak fluent Portuguese and the successful candidate will be required to travel throughout the area.
