Fixed Term contract for two months initially, with possibility of extension and expansion from April 05, depending on funding.
Hours:
14 hours per week.
Salary:
£24,720 pro rata

Description:
Job Summary:
  • To help women and schools set up local food growing projects
  • Offer information and support an established network of local women's food growing groups.
  • The project is especially focused on involving black and minority ethnic (BME) and disadvantaged women's groups across the country.
  • It will also involve training women and school children from the groups to become experts at organic food growing and composting.
    KeyTasks:
  • To plan a programme of work consistent with agreed targets for the project, in conjunction with the WEN Coordinator and WEN Management Team.
  • Co-ordinate a national network of food growing groups
  • To write and edit material about local food growing and composting, including a quarterly newsletter
  • To arrange and facilitate training workshops and networking events
  • To offer food growing and composting information to groups of disadvantaged women and women from black and minority ethnic communities.
  • To build on a network of contacts including existing and potential groups, interested local authorities, etc.; involving database entry and development.
  • To supervise and support volunteers and the Composting Development Worker
  • To encourage and support the women's groups, put them in touch with each other and with other sources of support
  • To produce reports for WEN trustees and funders
  • To assist with fundraising and financial planning
  • To keep records of work and of expenditure, deal with correspondence, general enquiries and information requests.
  • To carry out all tasks in accordance with WEN's Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Contribute to WEN's core activities and share in general duties at WEN as necessary
    Experience and knowledge:
  • Experience of project management or campaign work.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to present information in both a written and verbal format to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience of working with community groups and/or the voluntary sector and volunteers.
  • Experience of setting targets and working to agreed deadlines.
  • Experience of facilitating diverse groups of women.
  • Some experience of writing printed material.
  • Knowledge of organic food growing, gardening and local food issues.
  • Fundraising experience
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of managing volunteers
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Experience of working with the media
  • Local knowledge of Tower Hamlets desirable
    Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent organisational, negotiating and motivating skills.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to disseminate information verbally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate and able to use a database, word processing and e-mail packages.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the range of issues covered by the project within a short period of time.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to raise funds in conjunction with fundraiser.
