Description:

Women and Girls Network is now recruiting volunteers for our Telephone Helpline. The role of Helpline Volunteers is to provide a confidential information and support service to women and girls who have experienced any form of violence, whether sexual, emotional or physical. Our aim is to ensure that calls are dealt with in a calm and empathetic manner, using telephone helpline skills to show understanding and support, whilst also providing access to practical information using our information pack and resource directories.

Volunteers need to be calm, reliable and able to communicate effectively in English. We welcome volunteers with relevant life experience, who are open to learning new skills and can commit to training and regular volunteering. This is a great opportunity for women, who are motivated and passionate about wanting to make a difference to the lives of women and girls affected by violence.

All selected applicants will be required to undertake our Helpline Volunteer Training Programme, which is accredited by the Open College Network, London. This consists of six days training followed by a day of assessment. The training will equip women with the skills and knowledge necessary to support women and girls who have experienced violence. 100% attendance is a requirement for successful completion of the training, as is a period of supervised volunteering on the helpline.

On completion of the course, our expectation is that you will then volunteer regularly (once a week) with WGN for at least one year. We currently run evening helpline sessions and in the future will be running sessions on weekdays and evenings and are considering expanding the opening hours to weekends. Ability to make a regular commitment to one of these sessions will be part of our selection criteria.
